Intro
Mateo Márquez is an award-winning American-Colombian filmmaker from Queens, New York. Working across narrative fiction, branded content, and music videos, his films blend genre storytelling with intimate human drama, exploring identity, belonging, and the unseen emotional worlds we carry.
His short films have screened at over 30 festivals worldwide, including the BFI London Film Festival, Fantasia, the HBO NY Latino Film Festival, and Utopiales in Nantes. His work has been featured on ALTER, Film Shortage, Beyond the Short, and Retrospective of Jupiter.
Mateo holds an MFA in Directing from the School of Visual Arts and a BA in Film from Hunter College. He is a recipient of the BAFTA Scholarship (2015) and the SVA Alumni Scholarship Award (2019).
He is drawn to stories that unsettle, move, and haunt long after the screen goes dark.
